The Attune Approach
At Attune Counselling Therapy in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, we provide evidence-based counselling therapy for adults across Halifax Regional Municipality, including Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford, Cole Harbour, Sackville, and surrounding communities. We offer in-person counselling in Dartmouth and secure online counselling throughout Nova Scotia.
We believe people have the ability to better understand themselves, make meaningful changes, and move toward greater well-being.
Our work is grounded in genuine connection, careful listening, and therapeutic conversations shaped around each person’s needs, goals, identity, and life experiences.
We work with adults who may be navigating anxiety, depression, grief and loss, stress, identity questions, relationship concerns, substance use, burnout, self-esteem, life transitions, or the feeling of being stuck. Whatever brings you to counselling, our work begins with understanding what matters most to you.
The Attune Approach is built on six core features:
A Safe and Supportive Space
We provide a private, respectful, and non-judgmental space where you can talk openly about the issues and challenges you're facing. Our therapeutic conversations offer room to slow down, reflect, ask questions, and explore new ways of understanding yourself and your life.
We're a 2SLGBTQ+ affirming and diversity-aware practice. We work to create a space where people of all genders, sexual and affectional orientations, relationship structures, backgrounds, and life experiences are treated with respect.
Meaningful Connection
A strong therapeutic relationship with your counselling therapist matters. We work to build a therapeutic relationship that feels safe, respectful, and based on trust. We want you to feel heard, understood, and supported in our work together.
Strengths and Values
We help people notice and build on strengths, skills, and values they already carry. Counselling therapy is not only about what feels hard. It's also about recognizing what helps you cope, grow, connect, and create meaningful, lasting change.
Your Voice and Choice
You're the expert in your own life. We respect each person’s voice, choices, independence, and right to make decisions about their own care. Our role is to support you, not to take over your story.
Therapy That Fits You
We do not offer one-size-fits-all therapy. We use evidence-based therapeutic approaches that are tailored to your needs. Together, we decide what to focus on and how to shape the work in a way that fits who you are and what you hope to change.
Evidence-based counselling does not mean rigid or impersonal therapy. It means we draw from approaches with a strong foundation in professional practice while adapting the work to your goals, values, and lived experience.
Ethical and Professional Care
We follow the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists.
The Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists provides an objective and confidential Complaint and Professional Conduct Process for the public.
